Looking Back at the Sexy Dog Blog

January 1, 2014 //  by Pamela

The hardest part of blogging is writing something I’m proud of just to have it lost among the hundreds of other posts I’ve written before. So you can imagine how good I feel when something I’ve written moves someone to share it on Facebook. Or when I write about something people are searching for but can’t find anywhere else.

Honey the golden retriever looks back while Ginny the foster dog looks forward.
A new year is an ideal time to look both forward and back.

At least I used to feel good. Until I found the most common search terms that brought people to Something Wagging This Way Comes.

Okay, the #1 search phrase of 2013 is “baby golden retrievers are so cute.” So I’m not slitting my wrists yet. But after that the list includes:

  • dog sex
  • dog sex guide
  • dog sex stories
  • chastity belt for dogs
  • canine sex
  • dog sex lovers
  • guide to dog sex
  • dog lover sex
  • dog sex blog

I’m sorry. I can’t go on.

There are a few searches in there for dog food reviews and dog treats. Which confirms for me that the only thing anybody really cares about is eating and sex.

So with all that searching for sexy topics, what are the top Something Wagging posts for 2013?

Top 10 Blogs Posts of 2013

#10 – My Dog Didn’t Bite Thanks to Dr. Ian Dunbar – but it could have been a disaster.

#9 – 10 Funniest Reasons Not To Let Your Dog Go Along in the Car This Summer – because sometimes humor gets people thinking where arguments do not.

#8 – Can You Vacation With a Reactive Dog (without pooping in the woods)? – actually a 2012 post that keeps getting passed around. I’m so glad to write something people with reactive dogs find helpful.

#7 – Save My Life, Help Me Fatten Up My Dog – one of the best examples of how awesome S’Waggers are. There are tons of great suggestions, recipes, and links in the comments.

#6 – 3 Reasons A Dog Will Flinch Without Being Abused – inspired by the only foster dog Honey did not like. I’m happy to have a record of his short time with us.

#5 – 11 Steps to Grieving My Dog – all the comments remind me that loving and losing a pet makes us members of a club none of us want to belong to. But at least we know others understand.

#4 – 12 Cheap Dog Treats That Won’t Kill Your Dog – I don’t write a “useful” dog blog. It’s pretty esoteric. So I’m thrilled when my readers find something I write truly useful.

#3 – The Dog Lover’s Guide to Great Sex – I love it when my commenters write a post for me. This is awesome advice.

#2 – Why I Don’t Train My Dog Better  – for those of you who think Honey is a perfect dog. No, she isn’t. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

And the most popular post of 2013?

#1 – Where is the Dog When You Have Sex – the comments are a riot. Apparently I’m not the only one who has found this an issue. I’m just the only one with the nerve to write about it.

Honey the golden retriever looks to the future.
The future will be terrific. I can smell it.

I hope that 2014 finds you laughing, learning, and loving what you read at Something Wagging This Way Comes. And who knows? Maybe I’ll even write something good enough so we can stop being the sexy dog blog.

Happy 2014 S’Waggers!

Your Turn: What kinds of posts keep you coming back to a blog? Funny ones? Useful ones? Esoteric ones with weird words in them, like esoteric?

Always nice to read about dogs no matter where it is. Bloggers all have a different spin on them. Thanks for sharing.

Esoteric is a wonderful word, and for that I will return. LOL I like a variety in a blog, something useful, something funny, something sexy. That’s why I hang out here.

      Aww, thanks.

I tend to enjoy beautiful photos in a blog, something I’m incapable of creating myself. 🙂

I just takes one sex post to get the ball rolling! Yours was perfect back then 😉

Someday, I hope you’ll top it with a funny account of romantic life with a baby, a golden retriever, and a dachshund. 🙂

Wishing you a very happy New Year. Can’t wait to see the baby pics.

Hahaha! I think you should embrace being the sexy dog blog:-)

I’m not sure I have more than one or two sexy dog posts in me. I’d have to be the semi-sexy dog blog. 🙂

LOL… oh my gosh that is funny! Don’t feel bad because I get a lot of searches for bird sex from a post I wrote called “How to Sex Your Bird” (how to differentiate between gender basically)… the spammers seem to like that one and hit it with lots of “inappropriate” spam comments…

Thank you, Ann. I feel so much less alone now. 🙂

This was quite an eye opener. I wonder how naive I can possibly, but I am hesitant to find out! I love your blog and your sense of humor. Happy New Year!

I giggle when I think how disappointed many people much be when they find out they’ve really just come across a dog blog. But I try to not to think too hard about what they were really looking for. Some things we are better off not knowing.

Happy New Year to you too!

We like fun/funny blogs and sometimes ones with good advice. We also like blogs with decent photos. Lots of text and not much else gets boring. Happy 2014!

Wow, I’m thrilled you stop here at all. I take terrible photos. But hopefully I’ll get better if I just work at it a little more. 🙂

But you often have fun/funny content. Your blog we find interesting.

Love it! Who else could get away with tying dogs into a post about sex? You are wise enough and funny enough to pull it off with class. And that is why I keep coming back. No matter what the subject matter, your unique and open-minded perspective enables me to consider the material in a new way. You encourage your readers to challenge their beliefs and to open up.

I look forward to reading whatever risque articles you have up your sleeve in 2014!

Wow, that sounds like a challenge. Of course, most of my FB fans are pretty conservative. I could find myself on a Christian evangelical watchlist if I’m not careful. 🙂

I think your blog is wonderful just like it is, sex and all. 🙂

My most popular post is a harness review. Much more boring than your #1.

Aww, thanks. And I love watching Silas’s progress in your blog. It brings me lots of joy to realize that even a dog facing many challenges can have a wonderful life with someone who loves and accepts him for who he is.

BTW, you should be thrilled that your harness review is so popular. It’s a great feeling to write something useful.

lol! Those search engine stats can be both hilarious and terribly worrisome!
I’m going to have to go back to some of these posts – I definitely would’ve remembered them the first time around!

Well I guess after reading your number one post, we know why all those searches found you.
