Why My Dog Loves Solstice

December 20, 2014 //  by Pamela

Tonight is the longest night of the year. Which makes my dog very happy.

Why?

Golden retriever Honey sitting in the snow on solstice.

Because soon I can stop sobbing into her fur because it keeps getting darker and gloomier.

Happy Solstice, northern S’Waggers. The sun will be back soon.

Like the very ancient pagans, I’m going to wait a few days to make sure the sun really IS coming back to earth before I celebrate.

Honey is a pup after my own heart. We are so ready also!

We like the dark days…good for cozy evenings and the cat doesn’t wake us up so early. The long days make us so much busier which we don’t always like.

I love this turning point in the season. Each day after the solstice is one day closer to summertime! 🙂

Yes, it’s nice to know we’ll start getting a few more minutes of daylight again soon.

We saw the sun for the first time in over a week yesterday! But it’s gone again today. We were traveling to a family Xmas party and I commented to my hubby that at NOONTIME the sun was already hiding behind the trees along the interstate! Thank goodness we’ll be on the other side of the solstice now!

My girls and I all agree! We want longer days to be able to play in the yard a little longer each day. 🙂

Yes, and I always love how in just a few weeks it really starts to become noticeable that the days are longer. I don’t mind the darkness so much, but it does make the evening bike ride home more challenging. I’ll bet especially in Ithaca!

It is sunny here today for the first time in weeks! I love winter, but don’t like the short days.

I can’t wait for the morning and evenings to get lighter, I am struggling through winter looking forward to the summer walks. I am hoping that the ex continues to let me see BD into the summer (he’s not given any hints he won’t but I never know!)
