Happy Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2012 //  by Pamela

Valentine’s Day can be a rough holiday. It sends some unhappy messages that if you’re not tied romantically to another person you’re somehow incomplete.

The blessing of being single is that you don’t allow your attention to be taken over by one person. And you’re free to share your friendship and love with many others.

This is my Valentine to my wonderful single friends who share themselves with other creatures selflessly instead of being tied down in one relationship.

Isn’t this the cutest picture from Flickr?

Pamela, that’s incredibly sensitive of you. It’s easy for happy people to miss the sadness that surrounds them. Yes, there’s an upside to being single; embrace independence, freedom, and no one else’s dirty socks!

Thank you! Getting left out is not fun, but singles get it alot.

You know, I really do NOT mind being single today!! No sadness, no regret. No pressure.

I am going to snuggle up and watch the third episode of Sherlock from season one so I will be all ready when season 2 starts in May. I have cake to eat and I can go to bed early so I can go to work in the morning!

    Thanks for the good wishes!

Oh, I can’t WAIT for the next season of Sherlock! and, I took in a Great Pyr who was found with a small dog wandering in an industrial area. I think he is my Valentine’s date :). This is a wonderful post for those of us who live alone (and yet not). Thank you.

What a lovely post (and picture!)

I’m not single, but spent Valentine’s as such. I never quite understood the militant bitterness that some people take against the holiday.

A very sweet message for today! Although, that’s spoken by a girl who had her first date with the guy who took her out tonight twenty years ago on this day! It’s been a long time since Valentine’s Day was a sad affair for me.

Happy belated Valentine’s Day to you!

When I was single I used to celebrate by going out to a fancy dinner all by myself, with wine and everything. Even when I wasn’t single I kept up the tradition for several years. It used to be a day just for me to enjoy my own company. I don’t know why I stopped.

Thank you, Pamela:) I hope you and Mike had a great Valentines Day. It didn’t used to be a special day when I was married as my ex was a very practical man and showed his love in other ways. It’s special for me now since getting Frankie and making it his birthday:)

That’s a cute cute cute picture! I like Valentine’s day because it is a chance to show anyone…husband, significant other, children, mother, even a best friend how much you love them!

Lovely post and adorable picture! I always liked Valentine’s Day, even back in my single days (before I met the husband, I think I was single for almost every one, in fact). It always seemed like a nice day to celebrate all the love in my life, not just the romantic kind. πŸ™‚

Oh, I love that…Great idea, Pamela. I have a dislike of Valentine’s Day for a very personal and selfish reason: I was born on this day, so I’d like it to be mine alone πŸ™‚ I’ve never looked at it as presented in your post…But I agree, it could make single people (or those in unhappy relationships) feel bad…Choosing to celebrate this day with our beloved pets is a great idea. At the end of the day, few people can love us like they do πŸ™‚
