Dogs shouldn’t replace people in our lives. We have plenty of love for both.
But when I think of the behavior of some of my human “friends” over the years, it’s very tempting.
12 Reasons Your Dog is a Better Best Friend than Your (Human) Best Friend
Human friends? You better watch out. Because my dog…
doesn’t borrow my best outfit, get a stain on it, and forget to mention it until she sees me wearing it.
has never stolen a boyfriend.
lets me complain about my bad day without once telling me how it’s all my own fault and what I should do to fix it.
never invites me out for lunch and then quibbles over the check before rounding what we owe to the nearest third of a penny (yes, this has actually happened).
keeps me company while I’m watching the long foreign film that everyone else finds boring.
doesn’t look at the avocado, raw fish, or soft-shelled crab sandwich I’m enjoying and say, “Ewww, I don’t know how you can eat that!”
walks for miles without complaining about her feet hurting because she chose her shoes for looks instead of comfort.
never makes me feel like I need to clean my house for her.
is happy to go camping with me, even in the rain, without complaining about bugs, bird songs waking her up, and dirt.
never fights about politics.
is always happy to see me.
doesn’t throw it in my face that she’s much better looking than I am.
I’d keep going. But my best friend is drooling on my leg and needs something to eat. And then I’ve got to feed my dog.
