Insightful post, once again. Sometimes either Zack or Zoe (do they negotiate to decide which?) will wake me up, then go back to their bed. The first few times I wondered why, but then realized they are breaking me out of a disturbing dream. Good dogs.

Great post Pamela, but I would argue that dogs do have the compacity to understand us to a depth that is unmatched. In many moments when I am struggling with something, all the dogs will howl. It is usually connected with an emotion I am feeling or a decision I am making and I listen for the answer in their howls by what I’m thinking at the exact moment they start and finish. And that is just one example.

Yes, I would definitely argue that they understand us deeply.

What a thought-provoking post. I am amazed that you continually come up with these great ideas, particularly now when you’re so busy.

A number of years ago, our older dog, Duster, started sleeping in our room out of the blue. A few months later, it was discovered I was severely anemic and needed a transfusion. Duster continued to sleep in our room until my iron levels were back to normal. Then, he went back to sleeping by himself on the couch downstairs. He knew something was off, long before I did.

We know everything there is to know about Mom. Even when she comes downstairs in the morning and doesn’t say a word, we know if she is going for a walk or a run and who should get up to go along. It always amazes her.

By playing agility with Jimmy at the top levels, he is incredibly tuned into every nuance of body motion. Have your hand or foot in slightly the wrong direction and he shoots off to the wrong obstacle!
