OMD, yes! We have had so many people helping us out along the way. I don’t know how misanthropes live in this world.

Looks like the storm is shooting west. Don’t know if you’re staying put or going north. But thinking of the whole family and hoping you have an easy time as Irma passes through.

Yeah, but I’m glad we’re not REALLY relying on the sleepyhead to keep us from dragging anchor. 🙂

Thank you. Last year I spent a lot of time wondering if I could be capable of handling this boat myself. Glad to know that at least in some conditions, I definitely can.

I wish Honey would teach the skill of having an iron bladder. It sure would make life much easier for me if I could do the same. 🙂

One of the most interesting parts of traveling by boat is listening to the VHF radio. Every day we hear calls asking for assistance for other boaters.

Recently we heard about a sailboat where one crew member needed medical care. The Coast Guard sent out a swimmer and a helicopter to get her off the boat and to a hospital. As we continued to listen, we heard the Coast Guard connecting the boat’s captain with a nearby marina where he could land with help and someone would arrange for him to get transportation to the hospital.

I hope it all turned out well for them. And it’s incredibly inspiring to hear how professionals and amateurs alike work together to help people when they need it.

They were a pretty resilient crew. They would have figured something out. But glad we were able to make their day just a little easier.

We’ve certainly had many people who have done the same for us. 🙂

You make a really good point about the role of A/C and television.

Compared to many boaters, we’re pretty minimalist–no television or air conditioning. I don’t even play music in the cockpit when we’re underway. Part of it is because we’re kinda broke. 🙁

But some of it is because I live on a boat to gain a greater connection with the outside world. There are probably many people who are happy to help but they may not be in a position to notice who needs their help.
