What an amazing woman! Melissa deserves our help. And those precious babies of hers – !

And you, too, Pamela; you are inspiring for all you do to make the world a better place for animals (and their people, too.) It isn’t hard to imagine how grateful Melissa must have felt, knowing she didn’t have to worry about her pets, nor grieve the prospect of losing them, while she escaped the nightmare she’d been living. What you did in fostering did indeed help both pets and human alike.

We’ll be sharing this post, and the GoFundMe – I’ve already given my share! Best wishes for Melissa’s well-being and a better future. May she realize a day soon where she can just enjoy her life, stress- and pain-free.

It was so thoughtful of you to write this post. I have a friend who had that same surgery, but she had family to help her through it, and it was more successful for her. She also suffers from rheumatoid arthritis though, so through her I know what that daily chronic pain can be all about; and it amazes me when people can stay strong dealing with that. I hope your friend meets her goals, and I am glad for her that she has her animals and friends like you to help her through it.

I once signed up to be involved with taking pets from abuse situation, where I would foster them and then they would go back to their people when there was suitable accommodation. I can’t remember why but I got turned down – I think they didn’t cover my area or something.

I remember the first group I heard of that helped take care of the pets for women who had experienced domestic violence was started by someone well known in the ferret world. I never knew thought about the need until I learned about her group. It’s great your shelter offered placement and had someone like you to help.

Truly a touching post. Most hospital workers do suffer some sort of back injury and pain from moving people. In NYC, they’ve opened a few shelters for battered women who who let them keep their pets. More and more are doing so. In fact, a few years ago, I did a Blog the Change on the first one that opened in NYC. Good luck to Melissa. Thank you for sharing.
