How Do You Choose the Best Gift? Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange – 2013

How do you pick the best gifts?

By thinking about what would make the person getting the gift the most happy.

And usually, it’s not expensive toys that make the best presents. But the thoughtful gift that tells someone that the gift giver really understands them.

Honey the golden retriever is giving her ball as a gift.

Here’s the best gift ever–a schpitty ball. Isn’t that what everyone wants?

Last year, dozens of pet bloggers came together to share compliments, encouragement, and linky love with each other through the Pet Blogger Gift Exchange (get your inspiration from last year’s blog hop here). Pup Fan of I Still Want More Puppies has signed on as a co-host and we’re ready to welcome even more bloggers.

Everyone who has signed up so far has been paired with another blogger at random. Any time during the month of December, they will do something to celebrate their fellow blogger. And post a link to their post or other activity here.

If this is the first time you’re hearing about this, you can still sign up until December 20.

So what are you waiting for? Show a little love to your fellow blogger.

And if you’re cheering from the sidelines, here’s a cute pup whose person knew just what to get him for Christmas.

  1. New header! Love it. Are you emailing us our paired blogger?

    • Thanks, Kate. Hopefully the rest of the blog will match it soon.

And I’m in the middle of sending match emails out right now. Keep checking your mailbox. :)

  2. I love your new header, too! Did you design it yourself? If so, I might ask you to help me with mine!

    • My wonderful husband stepped outside his comfort zone to make it for me. I don’t think he envies graphic designers for heir easy work. :)

  3. PS Sam and I love that video of Maymo and his plastic bottles!! What I want to know is how Maymo’s humans kept those bottles together like that!

  4. Our beagle used to LOVE to play with empty water bottles. Cute vid.

Thanks again for organizing the exchange! Rita & I are excited to participate!

Love the new header! It’s perfect!

    • So glad you’ve joined the exchange. I can’t wait to see what everyone does.

And glad you like the header. Hopefully the whole blog will look much better soon.

  5. Love the new look! and I enjoy matching gifts to friends and family, as well as dogs :).

    • Thanks for the compliment, Roberta.

As for matching gifts for dogs? That must be quite a trick considering how many dogs you have around you at any one time. :)

  6. Ooooo, cool new look. Like it. Thanks for matching us up, It’s going to be awesome.

  7. Got my pairing, excited to participate in this. Thanks for hosting.

  8. I LOVE that video! I have a walker hound that looks just like him and has an equal love for water bottles. I bet she would love a water bottle pyramid like that. Sometimes she even tries to take our half full water bottles that we are still drinking. It’s quite adorable because she tries to be sneaky about it :) Have a great week, Pamela!

    • Oooooh, be careful. Your comment about your pup trying to take your half full water bottle reminded me of the day Honey chewed a tiny hole into a bottle of hair dye that I didn’t see until I squeezed the bottle and half of it went all over the wall and floor. :)

      • How scary! Thanks for the advice! We are super careful about leaving harmful things where the dogs can get it. I grew up with a dog that would steal absolutely anything, so it is second nature now :) I am glad Honey was okay, and I hope your floor and walls recovered!

  9. OOh!!! The dog is definitely getting the fun!!! How to get so many bottles???!!!

    • I have no idea. But I sure hope they picked them up off the ground. That’s too much plastic to buy.

Of course I’m sure the dog disagrees. ūüėČ

  10. I’ve always been one of those people who would rather have a bag of my favourite penny sweets than an expensive box of chocolates – it’s the thought that counts!

Love that video – how happy was that dog, and with his little Santa hat! Thanks for putting a smile on my face today!

  11. Awww that video is the cutest thing!! :)

  12. Wahoo! Got my match! I can’t wait until I’m home tonight to really dig in and read through her blog…get to know her and her pup. Thanks for hosting this again. It’s such fun!!

  13. Those bottles are awesome!

  14. I have done this year’s Pet Bloggers’ Gift Exchange!!!

  15. Jeeze! Where did the time go! I wanted to express how much I appreciate my partner in the Holiday Blog Exchange – Rachel of Adventures of Del, the UK Rottie! Rachel took the time to write such an impressive blog about Noble Beast Dog Training and here I am still trying to figure out how to give back! I have spent a lot of time reading about Del and his adventures, and have really fell in love with this big adorable Rottie. The thing is, I simply get lost in their stories, then don’t have time to write! Rachel, you really have a gift! Not only does Rachel talk about Del’s adventures, but she highlights and showcases so many dogs that belong to other bloggers (and their blogs), she shares relevant and super important information on dog care and dog products, and has an over all positive approach to life and its challenges. As I read through the adventures, I found myself smiling and chuckling a lot, but what I loved most were the beautiful pics! Rachel, you should definitely get into photography, I think you would be a natural. I have read about Del when he was introduced to the world on 2/9/13 all the way through to their last post about moving in with mom to save money to buy a house in 2015! Way to start 2014, with a big goal like that in mind, knowing it is not always easy to move back home. Can’t wait to read about the Del’s new home in 2015! Anyway, some of my favorite Del/Rachel moments – the fact that this big Rottie is afraid of ironing boards, oven mitts & vacuums, how he hoards socks in the toilet, how his best friend Kate could fit in his mouth (but was her size when he was brought home), how mom is super conscious and considerate of letting her big boy off leash – most importantly because if his recall, but also because of peoples misconception of Rotties, the Crufts Dog show (looks like so much fun!), the fact we share a similar Pet Peeve when people don’t pick up their dogs poo AND PUT IT IN THE TRASH BIN as well as the importance of Pet Theft awareness, all the amazing walks and pics of Chester, the fact that Del’s favorite color is red, Snoozy Sunday & Wordless Wed pics (especially on 07/17/13), Del’s love for TV commercials with animals in them and BIG sticks, Rachel’s kind heart in bringing awareness to kind ways of petting and owning dogs, the constant promotion of the true personality of the lovable Rotties (KEEP CALM AND HUG A ROTTWEILER), the fact that ‘go for a swim in the sea’ is on Del’s bucket list but he hates water, the many many friends they have both dog and human, Rachel’s NY adventure, Del & Rachels incredible Instagram site, the classy post about the woman who ruined Del’s walk, and Rachel’s love for chines cuisine!

My true confession is that I just started blogging about 3 months ago, and really suck at it. They end up pretty good, but it takes me a long time to write, figure out how to upload, and then publish. Rachel, I will return the favor, and showcase you on my blog for sure! It just won’t be by 01/04/14. Your blogging has inspired me to provide good info to the public, but to keep it heartfelt and fun too!

I look forward to knowing you and Del for years to come!

Sincerely – Mindy Jarvis – Noble Beast Dog Training!

  16. Hi Pamela!

Thank you for hosting this wonderful gift exchange! I loved writing about Te-Ling. I can’t wait to read about some of the other ‘gifts’. It was a wonderful idea to have it. I have to say, that getting to know so many wonderful bloggers over the last couple of years, and especially since attending BlogPaws 2013…you all inspire me in so many ways!!
I’ve done a redesign of my blog to make it more professional looking (had the same design for 5 years) so I can get more paid work, advertising and sponsors, and I am working blogging no less than 3 days a week for more consistency. New Year, New You, right?
    Take care, Pixel & Jenny
