Giving the Best Gift of All – Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange

It is the best of times. It is the worst of times.

You know what I’m talking about—the winter holidays.

Honey the golden retriever considers a frozen stick a gift.

The best part about winter? There are frozen sticks everywhere!

I love candles, Christmas trees, latkes, giving gifts, cookies, watching Miracle on 34th Street, and knowing that the days will start getting longer soon.

I hate the shopping mall, people complaining because they feel pressured to overdo it, bad holiday movies, and jerks who call Christians a persecuted majority because I say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.

So let’s take a step back from the craziness.

Honey's favorite gift is her stuffed lamb.

I love you Lamby.

Let’s use these darkest days of the year* to be kind to each other. To accept a little encouragement. And to remember what’s really important in life.

Pet Blogger's Gift Exchange BadgeLet’s have a Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange.

Last year, 50 pet bloggers joined the fun. This year, with the help of my awesome co-host, Pup Fan of I Still Want More Puppies, it will be even bigger.

Here’s how it works: People who share their love of animals either in a blog or through social media will be paired with each other. Anytime during the month of December, you will encourage your gift exchange partner by featuring their work. You can write a blog post about them, pin their best articles to a Pinterest board, feature them on your Facebook page, whatever you want.

Your partner will do the same for you.

Last year, Pup Fan was paired with Jodi of Kol’s Notes. Pup Fan dedicated one of her awesome link posts to Kol’s Notes. And Jodi created a Pinterest board of 25 of Pup Fan’s best posts. Isn’t that fabulous? Don’t you want to do it too?

I guarantee you’ll feel encouraged and appreciated. You’ll feel good for making someone else feel special. And it won’t cost you a dime.

To sign up, enter your name, email, blog address, and social media accounts in the Rafflecopter below. Once I’ve matched you with a gift exchange partner, I’ll send you an email with your partner’s information so you can get started.

Link your Pet Blogger Gift Exchange to the linky tool I’ll set up on December 1 so everyone can see it. At the end of the gift exchange, one of you will be chosen at random to win a beautiful prize—a handmade mola from a Kuna Yala artisan in Panama.

A mola made with two dogs.

A mola is a reverse applique panel made by indigenous Panamanian crafts people.

Need some inspiration? Read about where the Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange came from and read last year’s gifts (posts).

Now let’s get started:

  1. Grab the badge.
  2. Enter your information in the Rafflecopter.
  3. You’ll receive your partner’s information by December 1.
  4. Post and link.

    • Hooray! Thanks for starting us off.

It’s always nerve wracking when you host a party and wait for the first person to show up. Thanks for breaking the ice. 🙂

You’ll know who your partner is by December 1.

  2. Hi – love this idea! I’ve filled the form in, can’t wait to take part! 🙂

  3. I did this last year and loved it. I met a blogger that I probably would not have met otherwise. That Mola is beautiful!!!! I’m all signed up for this year.

    • So glad you’re back to join us again. It is fun to make new friends, isn’t it?

The mola we’re giving away is one of dozens we bought. The maker’s husband paddled up to our boat in a dugout canoe to show off their wares.

Sort of like the Kuna Yala version of traveling to art shows in an RV. 🙂

  4. Dozens??!! I would have done the same thing. I love stuff like that, especially when you can buy it right from the maker. And in countries like that, you know they appreciate the business, A LOT.

    • It’s also an interesting way to interact with the people in the country. My husband loved having the chance to practice his Spanish (and we learned a little bit of Kuna too).

  5. I’d love to participate! Where are we supposed to put the badge?

    • Glad you’ll be joining the fun.

You can copy the HTML in the box above into a side widget box on your blog or include it in your post when you write it.

I’m planning on getting everyone’s partner info to them by December 1.

  6. That was fun last year. I met some great people so thanks for organizing it again.

Anyway, I’m excited about this! What a great idea.

    • Hi Agnes! I would definitely love to welcome you and your turtles to the Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange.

Sorry you’ve had problems with the Rafflecopter. Sometimes it’s just stubborn. Some bloggers have found when they try again it works fine. But if that’s not true for you, reach me through the contact form: to let me know if you also have a FB page, Google+ site, or are on twitter.

I’ll enter your blog into the Gift Exchange and you’ll receive your blogger match by December 1.

BTW, your read eared sliders look lovely and very well-cared for.

  23. We have never participated but would LOVE to help to promote a fellow blogger and get recognition too! WOOF! Love, CK and Jozi

  24. Hi Y’all!

Sounds like a fun way to cheer up the bleakness of winter!

The Follow Up Friday blog hop answers questions about our posts from the previous week, but also we like to share the links from those asking. Sometimes if a blog posts gives me pause and I follow up with a related post, I love to liberally share the link of the original poster who was behind the whole thing…if you follow me (pun not intended).

    Y’all come by now!
    Hawk aka BrownDog

    • You’re right that sharing a little love all year around is the best way to go. And the Follow Up Friday blog hop has been a good chance for me to follow upon things before they get too far in the past.

So glad to see you’re joining in the Pet Blogger’s gift exchange. I’m really excited to see lots of old friends and plenty of new ones signing up.

  25. I changed my email address from TO

It’s fun to be a part of the Gift Exchange.

  26. What a great idea! I just saw the badge for this gift exchange on my good friend Carma Poodale’s blog and clicked on it out of curiousity. I’d love to take part! I hope it is not too late since today is Dec 1st. I will do the rafflecopter entry anyways and hope for the best. I always love meeting fellow bloggers and making new friends!
    Your new friend,
    Pixel & her Mom Jenny

  27. I loved this last year – the post Kristine wrote about Bella and the award she gave us was the highlight of my year. That said, I was reluctant to take on more stuff (remember my “not to do” list? 😉 but I just couldn’t resist. Look forward to the holiday cheer. 🙂

  28. I thought I’d filled out the form correctly a few weeks ago, but we haven’t gotten our partner yet… Any chance I messed it up? Anyway, we’d love to be included if there’s still time.

    • Hi Meghan, your info didn’t turn up in my Rafflecopter. I’m so sorry. A few people have had problems with it.

I’m wondering where your information went to? Don’t be surprised if someone emails you telling you you’ve won a year’s worth of chicken feed or something. 🙂

It’s not too late. But I’ll need to match you when someone else joins the fun — please spread the word. I’ll contact you by email to get your information.

  29. Ah, poo! Am I too late? Dang it! 🙁

    • You are definitely not too late, Laurie. The Rafflecopter is open until December 20 (although it’s been glitchy and I’m starting to regret using it.

I have new bloggers signing up who need a match. So if you want to join the fun, use the rafflecopter on this page. Or send me an email to somethingwagging at gmail dot com with links to your blog, FB page, google +, Pinterest, and Twitter feeds. I’ll follow up with an email with your match as soon as possible.

      Hope you join us.

  30. Hi – this totally might just be me, but when I tried to grab the badge from your sidebar, I couldn’t get it to work (the image wouldn’t come up), but when I grabbed the badge code from within this post, it worked fine. (Like I said – might just be operator error on my part, but thought I’d mention it.)

    Thanks for organizing this!

  31. I came here after learning about BJ. BJ’s owner was sad when she walked by BJ’s cage… and I am sad and I want to walk by some pup’s cage. We lost our Freddy right before Thanksgiving. While it is too soon for a new puppy, we still have Buddy and he has been so depressed. Right now we are dog-sitting Joey, and Buddy has perked right back up, so we are thinking that perhaps for Buddy, we need to start looking at shelters for a companion. I want to visit here because it looks like a fun place to learn about pups.
