Does Your Dog Cuddle – Wordless Wednesday

Can you guess our answer to that question?

Honey the golden retriever likes to cuddle.

That’s the perfect spot. Rub just a little more and I’ll have perfect puppy dreadlocks.

Honey the golden retriever sits on a lap.

I don’t care if you have to pee. I’m not done napping.

  1. Beamer is around 40 pounds, but I have still try to cuddle on the couch with him. If you call his constant movement, mouthing my hand and arm, turning on his back with his head in my lap writhing all his Standard Schnauzer beard and big teeth, cuddling – he wins.

The closest, non-wrestling, cuddle he does is our greeting in the morning. We look into each others eyes with his front paws in my lap, as I sit on the edge of the bed and I scratch his chest. Sometimes he licks my hand at this point.

Each dog has his own “language of love.” Beamer certainly does.

  2. Yes, Blueberry is a cuddler. She weighs in at 39 pounds – which is acceptable weight for me to be able to tolerate. The best part is – she is a cuddler in public as well. My last dog, Shadow, was like an embarrassed teenager when we were in public and I would try to give her a pet. Blueberry, however, has no problems with letting others know I belong to her and vice versa. :)

  3. Wilson has a hands-off policy at most times, even to John and me. Jimmy cuddles with John a lot. I don’t like to have a dog on my lap so Jimmy doesn’t try it with me. They are both around 35 pounds so not light/not heavy. When sleepy, they both love to be carried up the steps. Then they are VERY heavy 😉

  4. Aww, just a big baby! :) Do I like to cuddle? I am the King of Cuddles! *wags* – Gilligan from, aka “The Original Teddy Ween”

  5. Both of my dogs are right around 30lbs and they are both cuddly. Phoenix is more cuddly than Zoe, though!

  6. Yes and Yes! Both my dogs are cuddle bugs, the little 11 pounder & the 46 pounder! If one of them is on my lap I’m reluctant to move & disturb them!

  7. Sometimes I think the bigger and heavier they are, the more they want to cuddle! Luke is a real cuddler, and loves to be on top of us. The girls like to just be right up next to us. I love it when they cuddle!

  8. Jason Diehl says:

Zoey Monster is a 10 pound cuddler. She must be attached to you at all times of the day

  9. I have two German shepherds. I wish they’d cuddle more. Our first shepherd used to lay across our bodies. With these guys, I’m always smooshing my face against theirs until they get tired of me and move.

  10. What is it with the behind the ears rubbing. Harley loves that too!

  11. Zach, our Bernese, 80+ lbs is a half-lap dog: he jumps up and puts his front half on our lap, and leans his head against our chest. Duster, our labxBernese, also 80+ lbs, tries to get his whole body on our laps and usually succeeds. He’s quite the contortionist. He will also sit on your foot and lean against your legs if you are standing and he wants a cuddle. We have friends who have a lab who doesn’t cuddle at all. We feel sorry for them, but they get their cuddles from our guys.

  12. Mauja and Atka both cuddle. At the same time. That’s about 250 pounds of love 😉

  13. Out of the 3 huskies, my one likes to cuddle. The male of the pack. He is such a big suckie bum!!! And I love it!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!

  14. Both of mine are well over 30lbs…but neither like to cuddle. The complete opposite of Sally who was an expert cuddler.

  15. Theo is a cuddler and he is just over 30 pounds. Our Bullmastiff was also a cuddler….

  16. Depends which dog. As I always say Mity and BD are chalk and cheese. BD will climb onto my lap for a cuddle, whereas if Mity is feeling generous he will come and sit next to you, but if you touch him too much he will get up, glare at you and move out of reach!!

I love them both so so much!!

  17. Callie and Ducky are cuddle-bunnies, but not Shadow. While Shadow always wants to be the center of attention, she also wants some personal, physical, space. I find it odd, but endearing. She will, however, lean into me when I’m rubbing her ears.

  18. Laika is the first “super” cuddler I’ve ever owned. My previous dog Carter was always by my side but he had a real thing about his personal space. He’d lie next to me but never on or touching me. He had to be at least 6 inches away. Laika on the other hand will jump up and lay on your head if you let her. The closer the better in her mind.
