I recently found out that Honey’s friend, Tashi, passed his Canine Good Citizen exam. What a good boy!
For those who don’t know, the CGC is a program started by the American Kennel Club that stresses responsible pet care and good manners for dogs. People and their dogs work together until they are ready to pass a 10 part exam.
The exam features ten tasks for a dog to complete, including walking on a loose lead, walking through a crowd, coming when called and more.
I think it’s a great program and I’m working with Honey to take the test in the future. What are the benefits of the Canine Good Citizen test?
- The preparation alone can be a great way to strengthen the bond with your dog.
- You’ll end up with a dog you can enjoy taking anywhere.
- Having a well-mannered dog allows you to be a doggie ambassador–spreading the joys of dog guardianship to everyone you meet.
- And, believe it or not, some home insurance companies will discount your premiums if your dog has passed the test.
Honey and I are inspired by all the hard work done by Tashi and his dog moms.
